Scholarships
The application period for the European Forum Alpbach 2022 is closed. We will soon announce the selected candidates.
EFA 2022 will last from 21 August to 2 September 2022, and the four tracks of this year’s Forum are:
- The Climate Opportunity
- Securing Europe’s Future in a Globalised World
- The Financing of Europe’s Future
- The Future of Democracy and the Rule of Law in Europe.
Our Club has been granting scholarships to the annual European Forum Alpbach (EFA) since 2003!
We want motivated students and young professionals from the Alpe-Adria region (Carinthia, Northern Italy, Slovenia) to experience what we have experienced in Alpbach: meaningful discussions, unforgettable moments, diversity as an added value.
Are you our next scholarship holder?
As a first time scholarship holder, you are entitled to a scholarship that covers the participation fees and almost all your accommodation costs for your entire stay. We will support you during your time in Alpbach! Our team of returners will organise events, fireside talks, team building activities, and more. Therefore, a small self-contribution will be asked to cover the club activities during the forum, and to cover a small part of the accommodation costs.
Starting off with our summer event, passing through our welcome meeting in Alpbach, you have to attend the Forum for at least 14 days, which corresponds to the whole duration of the seminar program.
Our aim is to provide scholarships to young people who have ties and connection with the Alpe Adria region. Thus, we consider eligible everyone aged 18-30 who lives, studies or works in Carinthia, Slovenia or Northern Italy. You can also apply if you were born, grew up, and/or received most of your education in one of these regions.
NB: a C1 level of English is needed!
If you do not fulfill our requirements, please visit the official EFA scholarships homepage, where you can find other scholarship programmes which might be available for you: www.alpbach.org/en.
We warmly invite you to apply for our scholarship for EFA22!
The application period will be from March 1 to April 13, 2022. To apply for the scholarship, please upload the following documents online (link will be published on March 1) in ONE PDF file:
- CV in English WITHOUT a photo
- Academic transcripts of your studies
- Answer the following questions:
-
- Why do you want to go to Alpbach? What do you expect from EFA22? How can you contribute to CASC and the Forum in general? (max. 250 words)
- The four main themes of EFA are:
- The Climate Opportunity
- Securing our Future
- The Financing of Europe’s Future
- Democracy and the Rule of Law
What’s the track you are most interested in and why? (max. 300 words)
- One main part of EFA’s program is fireside talks, which are personal and interactive discussions between a speaker and moderator, allowing the audience to be part of the discussion and ask questions. Click here to see a picture of one of our fireside chats with Jeffrey Sachs at EFA19.
If you were to organize a fireside talk, which speaker would you invite and what would you talk about? (max. 100 words)
We especially encourage applications from people with disabilities, members of ethnic or religious minorities, people with non-privileged socio-economic or non-academic backgrounds.
In case you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via e-mail or on our social media channels.
When the selection process is over, we will send you an email to inform you about the outcome of the selection. We evaluate your time and efforts, and we are looking forward to receiving your application!
Once the applications have been collected, Club Alpbach Senza Confini board proceeds with the selection of candidates. Each member of the board evaluates each candidate’s essay, whereas the academic and professional curricula are evaluated by the board members coming from the candidate’s region.
A preliminary ranking for every region (Austria, Italy, Slovenia) is given according to the evaluation results. From it a list of the top 7 candidates per region emerges, which is then discussed by the board in a joint session, until the winners are defined. In these discussions we take also in consideration the activism and extracurricular activities of the candidates which state a clear commitment to the European values, their potential growth during and after the European Forum Alpbach, and the commitment prospects for the Alpe Adria region.
The winners are announced during the month of May and invited to the Scholarship delivery ceremony, an event held in July and attended by local personalities and institutions.
Are you still under 30, and have you been one of our scholarship holders? Would you like to return to Alpbach?
The preparation of the returner program is in progress. Please contact us by writing an e-mail to board@senza-confini.com, and we will let you know more about it.
If this is not your first time in Alpbach, and you have been a returner for already 3 times, you are entitled to an 80% discount on any EFA tickets as an Alumnus/Alumna of Club Alpbach Senza Confini.
To benefit from this discount, you will need to send to EFA the proof that you belong to our network. Said proof will be sent to you upon reception of the payment of the membership fee of 30€ to our Club.
In Alpbach, our team will coordinate your accommodation and help you to organise events within our Club. Please note, that as an Alumnus/Alumna you are required to cover the full costs of your accommodation.

Thoughts on EFA

EFA was a beautiful experience, and it was a privilege to be there as part of Senza Confini.

The mix of academic and cultural exploration and social activities was incredible, and enabled me to grow on many different levels.

The spirit of Alpbach and CASC totally caught me! I really believe that crossing borders – not only geographically, but also hierarchically and on an interdisciplinary level is the most important pathway to a peaceful future.
